BANDIT was founded in 1990 with the aim to provide clients with high-tech Vehicle Security solutions that outstripped rival products in every sphere and aspect of their applications. We almost immediately became a household name thanks to our Gear Lock device which set the standard of the time.

In 1997, aware of changing market requirements and in a strategic alliance with military contractor Denel, we launched our prototype Vehicle Tracking & Recovery system. Based on 'passive one-way' pager-type technology - still used by some tracking companies to this day - the system displayed the obvious shortcoming of being unable to 'talk back' to Bandit 24-Hour Control. With the advent of digital technology and cell-phone networks our Research & Development team set about pioneering ultra high-tech solutions to the questions of vehicle status and positioning.

This uniquely South African expertise ultimately resulted in the BANDIT Spectrum of High-Tech Solutions for all Vehicle Tracking and Fleet Management requirements.

Importantly, the Intellectual Property relating to these groundbreaking technologies is owned by BANDIT, which enables us to customise systems to a client's specifications where they are not already met.  Manufacture takes place in a local plant to meet stringent ISO9002 demands.

The GSM aspect of BANDIT 'active two-way' messaging is powered by cellular giant MTN - not only on account of its 5 000 towers covering a million square kilometres of South African terrain, but also access to the Dedicated SMS Server which facilitates Priority Messaging.

BANDIT has achieved much sought-after Export Status - complete with coveted CE (General) and e (Automotive Specific) marks of European Quality Standards. BANDIT systems have been implemented with noted positive outcomes from Glasgow to Moscow, and more recently into a number of African countries.

Our prestigious list of shareholders includes ABSA and other leading financial institutions alongside substantial private investors.

BANDIT is the sole remaining founding member of the Vehicle Security Association of South Africa (VESA) to maintain the approval of that self-regulating body. We are furthermore endorsed by all major local Underwriters. The insurance industry in South Africa is currently considering the introduction of a Grading System to assess vehicle tracking and recovery companies.

BANDIT installations involve the absolute minimum of vehicle circuitry interference and are accepted by all major South African motor manufacturers.
