Q: How long has BANDIT been in operation?
A: BANDIT was founded in 1990 with the aim to provide clients with high-tech Vehicle Security solutions that outstripped rival products in every sphere and aspect of their applications.

Q: Were you not famous for the Gear Lock?
A: We almost immediately became a household name thanks to that particular device - it set the standard of the time.

Q: Why have I perhaps not heard of you since the Gear Lock?
A: Although BANDIT has engaged in print media advertising campaigns we have overall preferred to keep a lower, word-of-mouth profile than certain of our rivals – we certainly did not wish to become embroiled in the so-called ‘tracking wars’ seen on television! We have, however, recently embarked on a year-long radio campaign on 5Fm.

Q: When did BANDIT branch out into Vehicle Tracking and Fleet Management?
A: In 1997, aware of changing market requirements and in a strategic alliance with arms contractor Denel, we launched our prototype Vehicle Tracking & Recovery system. With the advent of digital technology and cell-phone networks our own Research & Development team set about pioneering the BANDIT Spectrum of High-Tech Solutions, which we offer today.

Q: Does this BANDIT Spectrum include products for all needs?
A: That is our intention. Within the vehicle tracking range Executive, High Alert and Activtrac offer different levels of sophistication and features according to foreseen applications, just as Fleetmax is a more complex management tool than the compact monitoring system Fleet One. The more basic systems are nonetheless packed with features, highly effective and set industry standards.

Q: What if I have specific requirements, which do not fall under your pre-packaged systems?
A: Importantly, the Intellectual Property relating to our groundbreaking technologies is owned by BANDIT, which enables us to customise systems to a client’s specifications where they are not already met.

Q: How will the installation of a BANDIT tracking unit affect my car warranty?
A: We are accepted by ALL major motor manufacturers in South Africa. Opting for our High Alert early-warning system may require checking to see if the warranty permits.

Q: What are the chances of BANDIT recovering my stolen vehicle?
A: To end June 2005, our Average Recovery Rate was an impressive 82.5%

Q: How do BANDIT prices compare with rival products?
A: Our systems are affordable and cost-effective. A monthly Rental option is available. Within our tracking range we offer a generous number of free SMS replies to On-Demand Positioning requests, while our management systems are fully-inclusive of all upfront software and ongoing system communications costs.

Q: How extensive is the BANDIT tracking network?
A: Two-way messaging between our installed units and 24-Hour Control is powered by cellular giant MTN, which has 5 000 towers covering a million square kilometres of South African terrain. We also have access to the Dedicated SMS Server for Priority Messaging.

Q: Will BANDIT be able to tell me my vehicle’s position at any given time?
A: One-Call to 24-Hour Control for our GSM-powered systems, while our GPS-enabled systems can be accessed via the Internet or our One-Call service.

Q: Is BANDIT a nationwide operation?
A: In addition to Private Recovery Teams with Helicopter Support we have offices in all major centres as well as a National Call Centre and 24-Hour Hotline.  Client satisfaction is an integral part of the BANDIT Manifesto!

Q: Can I be sure that BANDIT will be with me for the long run?
A: BANDIT installations – into all makes of cars and right around the country – have passed the 18 000 mark. Our prestigious list of shareholders includes ABSA and other leading financial institutions alongside substantial private investors.

Q: Is your company approved by the Vehicle Security Association of South Africa?
A: Yes – in fact BANDIT is the sole remaining founding member of VESA to maintain the approval of that self-regulating body.

Q: Is BANDIT recognised by the Insurance Industry in South Africa?
A: We are endorsed by all major local Underwriters, who are in the process of considering the introduction of a Grading System to assess vehicle tracking companies.

Q: Will I qualify for a discounted Insurance Premium if I install a BANDIT tracking system?
A: Our clients have historically been able to negotiate discounts of as much as 25%.

Q: Does BANDIT operate beyond South Africa?
A: We have achieved much sought-after Export Status – complete with coveted CE (General) and e (Automotive Specific) marks of European Quality Standards. BANDIT systems have been implemented with noted positive outcomes from Glasgow to Moscow, and more recently into a number of African countries.
